The Indian classical dance of Bharatanatyam has enthralled audiences since millennia. It beautifully combines music, emotions, expressions and physical movements, showcasing the multiple skills of the dancer. Natyanjali Nrutya Kala Kendra, founded by Vidushi Dr. Sahana Bhat represents the brilliance of this art form through their 2,000+ students. With humble beginnings in Sirsi, Natyanjali is now present in 25+ cities across Karnataka.

Dr. Sahana Bhat and Mr. Pradeep Bhat were very clear that their students should be able to create a financially viable career out of Indian classical dance. They wished to provide students with a clear pathway to pursue their passion and rise up the socio-economic ladder. Hence, all interested students could choose between one of these options:

  • Become a stage artiste, delivering curated performances
  • Become a dance teacher, enabling many more children to learn
  • Become a research scholar, contributing to the growth of the field
  • Gain employment in the Government through the dance quota

1,000+ students have been personally trained by Dr. Sahana Bhat in Bharatanatyam

80% of students are girls with 50% of them from disadvantaged communities

100+ students have become professional artistes themselves

60+ students have achieved the highest academic distinction of Vidwat from the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEEB)

35 students are now full-fledged dance teachers in 14 districts of Karnataka, collectively teaching 1,000+ students

Bharatanatyam for a Brighter Future

Natyanjali Nrutya Kala Kendra

Natyanjali is committed to making Bharatanatyam accessible to all sections of society. In 2018, we began visiting Government schools in and around Hubballi and Sirsi to introduce Indian classical dance to students of classes 3 to 10. We aim to reach 100 Government schools over the next 5 years.
